Oakwood Elementary School has been named a 2025 National ESEA Distinguished School, a national honor recognizing schools that show strong academic success and meaningful student growth.
Each year, states can nominate up to two schools. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) selected Oakwood Elementary in Hannibal and Goodman Elementary in Goodman as Missouri’s honorees. To be eligible, schools must:
Serve a student population where at least 35% live in poverty
Show high academic achievement or significant growth
Meet or exceed state accountability standards
Receive federal funds through one or more ESEA programs
“At HPS, we live our mission every day; to serve our community by empowering students to thrive,” said Dr. Ritchie Kracht, Superintendent of Hannibal Public Schools. “This honor shines a light on the belief, commitment and care our Oakwood staff pour into every student, every day.”
Oakwood Principal Stephanie Eaton said the award celebrates the entire school community. “We’re incredibly proud to be named a National ESEA Distinguished School,” Eaton said. “This belongs to our teachers, support staff, families, and students who show up every day ready to grow. It affirms our belief that every child can succeed.”
As part of the honor, Oakwood Elementary will be:
Featured on the ESEA Network website
Recognized at the National ESEA Conference
Presented with a commemorative award
