HANNIBAL, MO – Hannibal Public Schools received a $40,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to support the installation of a recycled tire playground surface at A.D. Stowell Elementary School. The new surface was installed just before the start of the 2024–2025 school year, giving students the opportunity to safely enjoy the updated space ever since.
The recycled material not only provides a safe and durable play area for students but also repurposes tires that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. The project enhances learning opportunities by creating a space that can double as an outdoor classroom and ensures students can enjoy outdoor play even after rainy weather—no more muddy shoes or soggy grass.
Additionally, students at A.D. Stowell are learning about the importance of recycling through hands-on lessons, helping them understand the long-term impact of sustainability efforts.
