Homework
Rules
1.
All work is due as soon as you enter our room that day.
2.
If you are absent, you have the number of days absent to make up your
work.
Example: should you be absent for two days, you have two days to turn
your
make up work in.
3.
Should you come to school without your homework, anyway you look at it,
you will miss your recess to complete it. Once it is complete,
you
can go play. If you have it done, but left it at home, you'll
need
to do it over at recess. Obviously, there may be exceptions to this
rule.

When
is a good time to come for a visit?
You
are welcome to come to our room anytime you want, unannounced,
uninvited.
I love for my parents to come by any time they want. The children
love to see their parents and I love the support. Watch the
calendar
for assemblies and specials.

What
type of reading program do you use in your room?
We have
a special reading block time for all fourth grade classes. It is
from 12:15-2:00. We use a combination of reading strategies to
acomplish
our goal: To grow as a reader.
I read
aloud for thirty minutes every day. Then we talk about the read
aloud
and relate it to our own lives to make the story become more real. We
record
our thoughts and ideas in our response journal.
At 12:45
we begin Readers Workshop. The Children are divided into groups
by
reading styles: The silent reader, the aloud reader, the think aloud
reader,
and the ones who just want to read and be left alone!
I may
begin workshop with a mini-lesson over a reading strategy or introduce
a cool new book or author. Or the kids may read silently to
themselves
for the first fifteen minutes.
At 1:00
I will meet with the groups...two a day. We may read aloud, share
ideas, retell or give oral summaries.
From
1:30-2:00 We focus on writing. At this time we write, edit and
publish
our writing. We also set aside this time for writing museums,
portfolios
and email.
I meet
with your child three of four times a week for personal conferences
abour
reading and writing.
