About the Teacher

I am a native of Marceline, MO, the boyhood home of Walt Disney . . . the eternal optimist. It would be safe to say that some of  Walt's optimism has rubbed-off on me.  I am very optimistic that every student can make a success of their life;  as long as they are willing to put out the effort necessary to attain their goals and as long as they are willing to use some of life's harsh lessons as a tool to improve themselves.  I believe we are here on this planet together to make a difference for one another and to make the state of this world we live in worthwhile, inspite of the short time we are here.  We are here, after all, for each other.

My educational philosophy?  Education is something to be cherished.  Once obtained, no one can take it from you.  Education is freedom, freedom to make decissions necessary for successful life-choices.  Education is power, the power to free yourself from the ignorance of prejudice and those that would limit your dreams.  And finally, education is fragile.  If education is corrupted and sold to the highest bidder? . ? . ? . . . . history tells us that a civilization will flounder when education is not valued and nurtured by its people.

On a lighter note.  I have two children, my dogs Alice and Bailey.  Alice is well-known around the halls of good ole HHS and both are a source of great joy in my life.  This year kicks-off my twenty-second year at Hannibal and my 29th year in education.  I will be retiring from teaching after this year.  I have loved teaching here at the high school..  I feel fortunate to be a cog in the "educational wheel" at Hannibal High School.  I am proud of the many successes our educational team - our students, staff and administrators, are continuously a part of.
