Hello. My name is Quintin Heaton. I am one of the physical science teachers at Hannibal High School. My wife and I moved here with our dog, Abbey, to Hannibal in the summer of 2003.  We have a cool son, who is all boy.  Prior to moving to Hannibal, I taught physical science and biology at Mexico High School, which is also where I graduated in 1991.

I am available before school from 7:15-7:45 every day. You can also make plans to meet with me after school.

School Phone: 573-221-2733

I received my B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1995.  Then earned an M. A. in Secondary Education from Maryville University, St. Louis in 2000.

Here are some relevant jobs I've had:

Present: Hannibal High School - Physical Science

2000-2003: Mexico Public Schools - Physical Science, Biology 1, Applied Biology and Chemistry 2.

1996-1999: Fisheries Biologist (Seatle,WA) - Collected catch data aboard Alaskan fisheries vessels.

1995-1996: Various Fun Jobs - Collecting fish samples in the MO River for MDC, Surveying trout lakes in southern Utah, Ski Lift operations in Utah.

Welcome to Mr. Heaton's Science Class webpage!

Physical Science and Missouri Science  Physical Science and Physical Science CP are freshman level courses designed to provide basic introductory instruction in chemistry and physics.  This course will prepare you for other science courses and teach real world applications of physical science.  The textbook and other resources, including the Internet, will be used for learning the material; and labs and other hands-on activities will be used to apply and observe science in action. It is my goal to make you aware of the importance of science in your life, whether you become a scientist or not, and hopefully help you gain a positive appreciation for the sciences.  Students in College Prep are expected to meet higher standards that start preparing them to pursue a college career.

Missouri Science is a year-long elective science class designed for juniors/seniors with a strong interest in science and the outdoors.  The class will involve hands-on activities, internet-based research, reading assignments, projects and journaling covering all aspects of science in Missouri – including Missouri animals, Missouri plants, Missouri Public Lands,  Missouri Conservation, and outdoor recreational opportunities (fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, floating, etc.) available in the state of Missouri.  A good portion of the class will be spent doing physical activities outside in all kinds of weather, for example hiking in all seasons.  Grades will be based on class participation/attendance, journal writing, skills testing, and attitude/leadership.  The class will also require participation in a community service-action project such as a school-wide recycling program.
