About the Teacher

My name is Marlys Treaster.  I have been teaching ninth grade English at Hannibal  High School for the last eighteen years. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Northeast Missouri State University(Truman University).  While in college I  lettered in basketball and softball.  I have coached girls basketball and volleyball during my first four years at Hannibal Public Schools.  Currently I am a freshman sponsor, member of the Student Assistance Team, and member of the Mahan Literary Committee.  

Course Descriptions

English 9 College Prep--This course is designed for students who plan to attend college.  English 9 C.P. enphasizes grammar review, literary terms in literature, writing skills, and reading a novel as well as an introduction to Shakespeare.  Throughout the year vocabulary expansion is stressed, and students refine speaking and research skills through oral presentations.  Independent reading is required of all students.

English 9 -- This course is designed to help the student continue improving practical and essential commuinication skills in the following areas: writing, spelling, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and reading.  Literature studies include poetry, plays, short stories, and novels.  Independent reading is required of all students.
