About the Teacher
This is my eighth year of teaching. I have twenty-five years of business experience as a cabinet-maker, silk screener, remodeler, institutional cabinet maker, auto body technician, furniture repairer, and refinisher. My hobbies include gardening, scouting, and 4-H. I am active in Knights of Columbus and a Sacristan at Holy Rosary in Monroe City. My bachelors is from Pittsburgh State University School of Technology in Kansas. I have also received an elementary teaching certificate through Hannibal-LaGrange College.
Course Descriptions
Leather Work
This class is designed to create an artistic knowledge o materials
and processes. The students will learn how the pelts and hides of
animals are processed so that they can be used in the manufacture of various
types of products. The process of cutting, shaping, tooling, and
dying hides of animals is known as leather craft. The student will
receive hands-on-experience by working with different weights of leather
and different kinds of leather in the manufacture of a product. Examples
of products that can be made by the student will be belts, purses, wallets,
quivers, holsters, and various types of cases. All of these can be
made using existing patterns or using patterns of the student's design.
Plastics Technology
This course is designed to show the importance of plastics in our daily
lives. This course will discuss the major plastic resins and materials
used in industry and the various industrial processes that use these resins
and materials to construct various products. The students will have
hands-on experience by making various products using such processes as
fiberglass, rotational molding, injection molding, blow molding, compression
molding, plastisol molding, vacuum forming, pressure forming, and sheet
fabrication. Students will also become familiar with mold and jig
construction so that they can make their own molds or jig fixtures to create
their personal projects.
Introduction to Metals
This course is designed to instruct students in the basic fundamentals
of metal working. This will be accomplished by discussing the various
types of metals used in industry. Students will also be instructed
in many of the basic processes used to construct products from the various
types of metals available. These processes will include sheet metal
fabrication, forging, bench metal work, welding, casting, and basic machining
operations. Students will also be instructed in the proper use and
set-up (including safety) of the various machines and tools used to manufacture
various products from metal.
