French IV - Course Description
French IV is a full year course for one (1) credit. Students in French IV will begin the year with a brief review of materials covered in their first three years of the language. In addition to the standard vocabulary, writing, and oral skills, the emphasis this year will be on learning many new verb tenses. We will work closely from the second half of our textbook, Allez, viens II. This textbook has a website with supplemental activities from the chapters so you can get some extra practice at home: go.hrw.com - check it out! (From the main page, click on "World Languages," then "French," then Allez, viens! Level II.) New vocabulary will be presented in each chapter along with composition and conversation. We will finish the textbook first semester and use quite a bit of supplemental materials as well to learn/practice verb tenses and additional vocabulary. We may also squeeze in a novel at the end of the year!
Throughout the year we will also be studying a great deal of French history. It will be an overview of France from prehistoric times to modern day. In lieu of one large semester project, all students in French IV will instead give a series of mini-presentations throughout the year that reflect our learning of the history of France.
Prerequisite: French III, recommended grade of "C" or better.
