French I - Course Description

French I is open to any student enrolled in grades 8-12. It is a full year class for one (1) credit. The students will learn the basic fundamentals of the language with emphasis on vocabulary, verbs, and the basic grammar structure necessary for conversation. There will be some concentration of French culture and history, as well as writing practice in the language. We will work closely from our textbook, Allez, viens I. This textbook has a website with supplemental activities from the chapters so you can get some extra practice at home: go.hrw.com - check it out! (From the main page, click on "World Languages," then "French," then Allez,viens! Level I.) Expect to make it just over halfway through the text this year - around chapter seven.

In the first semester, all students in French I will complete a research project/presentation on a region of France or a francophone country.

Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in English.
