Computer 3

This course is designed to enhance student’s computer skills and prepare them for journalism classes. We will cover computer topics including intermediate and advanced Windows features such as: organizing files and folders, Windows Explorer, and customizing your desktop work environment. This class will also include desktop publishing. Students will create newsletters, business cards, signs, brochures, flyers, letters, envelopes, labels, and certificates using Microsoft Publisher 2000, Microsoft Word, Adobe PageMaker 6.5, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn through hands-on applications.

Introductory Concepts

Describe the functions of hardware components required for desktop publishing.

Compare functions and features of software used for desktop publishing.

Label all components of the desktop.

Identify tools in toolbars and palettes.

Import graphics from various sources (e.g., software-specific library, other applications, Internet).

Manipulate graphics (e.g., resizing, cropping, scaling, rotating).

Edit graphics (e.g., color, filters, tints).

Create files from a digital camera.
