Monster Project 2006

What do we do in this project?

Mr. Smith's, Miss Huseman's, Mrs. Coates, Mrs. Schoonover's, and Mrs. Selle's classes from Eugene Field worked with fifteen schools from the United States and around the world. Each class chose a Monster part. Then, each class wrote a description of that part and sent it to Mr. Smith at Eugene Field. When all descriptions were in, all classes constructed a single MONSTER using all of the contributed descriptions.

In this project, students discover that designing and building a monster together is a very big job. It is a major lesson in working together and learning to compromise in a group decision process. For example, the kid responsible for the head has to plan with the kids doing the eyes, nose, neck, mouth, ears and hair. The leg designer must meet with the knees and feet people. So kids must collaborate to construct their class MONSTER . The result is satisfying proof that a team of kids can accomplish anything!!

Schools in the project this year are from: Taiwan, Japan, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Missouri, Texas, Washington, and Nebraska.
