Students research famous people from Missouri and share the information learned by portraying that person in a “Missouri Hall of Fame”.

Students will choose a famous person and research that person using the following research checklist:

1.___ Find out where and when your famous Missourian was born.

2.___ Find out where he/she lived.

3.___ Tell about the early years.

4.___ Tell about family life.

5.___ Tell about the major contribution(s) that made them famous.

6.___Tell several facts about his/her life.

Students will turn the research information into a personal narrative form.

Students will gather pictures of the famous Missourian and include those pictures and their final copy of their narrative on a poster.  These posters will be displayed using the main hallway of the school.

Students will gather props and costumes representative of their famous Missourian and share their narrative in class using the following presentation checklist:

1.___ Memorize part

2.___ Gather props, including costume

3.___Practice part after memorizing

4.___Practice speaking clearly and distinctly

5.___Practice appropriate body language and eye contact

With your principal’s approval, choose a night as a Missouri Social Studies Night.  Students will stand beneath their poster in costume and portray their famous Missourian as visitors come through the “Missouri Hall of Fame”.

The “Missouri Hall of Fame” could also be held along with a music program on the same night and a social studies fair in which students display a project depicting some aspect of Missouri or Missouri’s history.
