Factor Comparisons

Formative Assessment:

Think about someone you know. Are there any similarities or things that are alike about the two of you? Are there any differences or things that are different about the two of you?

Instructional Strategies or Activities:

Select one child’s answers to the above questions and place them in a Venn diagram as an example for the students.

Pass out several Venn diagrams and numbers cubes to the students.

Have the students roll two number cubes and place the factors of each of the numbers in the Venn diagram (overlapping the factors that the two numbers share). Have them do several sets of numbers.

Summative Assessment:

The students will write a couple of sentences explaining any discoveries that they made during the activity.

The diagrams can be checked for accuracy.
