What are the rules of multiplication? (properties of 0 & 1)

Instructional Strategies:

On the overhead draw a square, circle, and triangle. Explain to students that each shape will stand for the same number in every number sentence. Then using the symbols write these problems on the overhead.

Square x 1 =9

Circle x Triangle =6

Triangle x Triangle = 9

Circle x Square = 18

Triangle x Square x Circle = ??

Practice with other problems. Change operations using the same symbols.

Summative Assessment:

Have students work in pairs to make up their own problem. Trade with another pair. Check for accuracy.
