Formative Assessment:

 

*    How much do you weigh?

 

*    How tall are you?

 

*    How can you find out how much you weigh or how tall you are?

 

Instructional Strategies or Activities:

 

          Display measurement tools such as the protractor, compass, ruler, pan balance, spring scale, and meter stick.  Review with class what items can be measured using each tool.  Divide class into 2 teams.  Have a list of items on note cards that can be measured.  Players from each team take turns drawing a card and naming the tool used to measure that item.  When game is finished, have stations set up for each tool.  Students work at each station with partners practicing measuring with that tool.

 

Summative Assessment:

 

          Students must successfully complete measurement at each station.
