LO 5
Formative Assessment:
What are different ways we can measure?
What tools or instruments are used to measure
length?
Instructional Strategies or Activities:
Explain to students they are going to draw lines using a centimeter rule. Pairs of students use a game board in the shape of a large S. Each student has a die, colored pencil, (not the same for each student) and a ruler. The first student rolls the die and follows the code:
1= l cm
2= 2 cm
3= 3cm
4=4 cm
5=5cm
6= 0 cm
The first student draws a line the length according to the code. Player 2 takes a turn in the same manner. Each player must draw the entire line. A line may not be broken. If a line cannot be drawn the turn is lost. The first player to reach the end wins.
Summative Assessment:
Teacher observation during the activity, then have a worksheet where students draw 10 lines of various lengths.
All 10 lines drawn correctly 10 pts.
8-9 lines drawn correctly 9 pts.
6-7 lines drawn correctly 7 pts.
5 or less drawn correctly 5 pts. (redo assignment)
