Instructional Strategies and Activities

Students will create own interpretation of text by dramatizing.

Listen to and sing the song together.  Introduce text on chart paper.  Have students place visuals above the correct words in the text. (example- placing a picture of five monkeys above the phrase five monkeys)

Choose 6 children to act out song.  (5 students as monkeys and 1 student as alligator)  Encourage the other children to sing along as the 6 children act out the song.  Switch groups so that all have the chance to participate.

Summative Assessment

Make sure that the dramatization accurately interprets the text. (informal observation)

            Five Little Monkeys

Five little monkeys swinging in the tree

Teasing Mr. Alligator

Can’t catch me

Along came Mr. Alligator

Quiet as can be

and snapped that monkey right out of that tree.

Four little monkeys...

Three little monkeys...

Two little monkeys...

One little monkey swinging in the tree

Teasing Mr. Alligator

Can’t catch me

Along came Mr. Alligator

Quiet as can be

and snapped that monkey right out of that tree (the alligator misses the last monkey)

Missed me, missed me, now you’ve got to kiss me!
